After receiving a facebook request today to “enable the facebook ‘dislike’ button”, my first thought was, “I want to dislike this.” You know, to be a punk. But then I started to think that maybe there was more to this than what the surface reflected. So I dove into the internet searching for “facebook dislike button” and it didn’t take long to reveal news of a recent scam to propogate malicious code.
Authorizing the rogue app will give it permission to send requests to your friends in attempt to spread virally through your facebook contacts. Because of this, we recommend not clicking on the link and if you already have, delete the app and report it to facebook.
We think it’s best to simply give up hope for a real “dislike” button. If facebook wants to release such functionality, they will. So far the world of facebook has not imploded and proceeded to function just fine without the use of a “dislike button”.
If you see this garbage request, take the time to inform your friend, and then ask that they like fizmarble instead. This way we can spread positive messages about news, tech, games, movies, music, stuff we actually do “like”.
