Game Newell and JJ Abrams sat together on stage today at the DICE Summit and spoke about a combining of their collective forces for the greater good of both. DICE stands for Design Innovate Communicate Entertain and the summit is a celebration of creativity in games and other entertainment and of great ideas. Both well known creators spoke about their contributions and while nothing as of yet is concrete they are both showing more than a passing interest at working togeather.
They had the following to say at the summit today.
Editor in Chief Orion Williams and I have played many, many, many video games during our lives. Some were brief but fun jaunts. Others are still talked about as if the stuff of legend. Multiplayer moments have been created. Stories still told to this day. Experiences were had that have helped shape how we look at future games. Silliness and glitches and physics engine wackiness has been seen and still almost not believed. We have played many, many, many games and of all those games these titles have made the most impact for their own very special reasons. Black Mesa (formerly Black Mesa: Source) is a Half-Life 2 total conversion remaking of Valve Software’s award-winning PC game, Half-Life. Created by a passionate group of programmers, modelers and creative forces this game has been eight years in the making. Available through the Steam Network this title was one of the first to be a part of Steam’s Greenlight project in which the gaming community decides what makes it to the final stage and worldwide distribution through Steam.
