Skottie Young is known for his distinctive style and most recently his fun variant covers featuring familiar Marvel characters in kid like form. His alt cover for the new Uncanny Avengers comic features the new rebellious team led by Cyclops looking both formidable and adorable.
Cyclops sits in his cell biding his time. He is considered by many to be a criminal and a villian now. He considers himself a prisoner of war. Wolverine visited him last issues and this time Iron Man has some words to say. check out the preview below.
HeroClix was created in 2002 as a table based battle game. Much like card battle games these figures would have different traits and skills and be used to combat each other through attack and defense stages. Capitalizing on the success of Skylanders this new HeroClix App lets the figure transport to the digital realm.
WizKids Games have announced the launch of HeroClix TabApp™, the much anticipated iPad application that combines Marvel Universe Super Hero miniatures with digital gameplay. Beginning today, players, fans and collectors can pick up the Marvel Super Heroes HeroClix TabApp™ figure pack, which includes Iron Man, Thor and Captain America miniatures, from participating Toys “R” Us stores nationwide.
This is the end as a Dark Phoenix possessed Cyclops takes on the combined might of The Avengers and X-men. He’s already killed one hero so the line has been crossed. How much higher will the pile get. It has been an interesting ride up to this point. Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert supply the finale of this crossover that will see the results affect both teams for some time to come. With the Marvel NOW storylines starting up in October this is the last little bit of what you knew before the new. This issues drops on October 3rd. Check out a preview of some interiror pages of Avengers vs. X-men #12 below.
This Avengers vs. Xmen crossover event has been going for quite awhile now and has been mostly lackluster in my opinion. I like what I like and don’t what I don’t and I’m not taking anything away from what the creators make but it just has not done much for me. I never understood the whole let’s pit all the good guys against each other thing but it’s something to do, a bit of a spectacle and with the restart (not reboot) coming up they can afford to shake things up a bit which is what seems to be happening here. Marvel is doing very well for themselves with the success of their films and they are trying to create a more cohesive universe overall. It does seem though that a lot of creative decisions are being made both at Marvel and DC in order to get press. The gay marriage beteen X-man Northstar and his companion in the X-men books and DC’s reimagining of Green Lantern Alan Scott as a gay man. More recently the announcement of another new Green Lantern who would be a Muslim character. I have no problems at all with any of this. Our real world is full of a variety of people in many walks of life and the comics should reflect that, it’s just when it’s done in the way they are doing it in which they try to force the impact on us that it seems like more of a hollow gesture with ulterior motives. Maybe I’m wrong but it does have at least a sliver of truth to it. Deaths in comics can be considered the same kind of thing. Something done more for shock value than purposeful direction. In comics for a long time now deaths seemed to not really even matter as any number of fantastic reasons can be concieved to return a hero or villain to the fictional living world. In todays release of the newest Avengers vs. Xmen comic a death occurred and while it can be looked as just another bit of comic book death fluff there is also purpose to it. If you would like to know what went down and who is no more. Click the read more tab but be warned…..SPOILERS ahead. Who fell in battle today???
What was old is new again. Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen will be the creative team behind this new book that will start up in November. Your eyes do not decieve you. Those are the 5 original X-Men (Angel, Jean Grey or Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Beast and Iceman) and due to events, we as of yet do not fully know they are brought to the modern day and get to see what their lives have helped create. A lot has happened over the years. All of these people have been changed in very big ways…mind, body and soul. It will be very interesting to see how they deal with things and what they will do knowing now what they didn’t know then.
Beginning this October Marvel Comics will begin relaunching a number of their flagship titles and will be starting a few new ones. Last year DC did the same kind of thing but it was more of a defined new beginning as it disregarded much of the continuity of it’s comic book storylines for all the years up to that new zero point. With Marvel this is a new beginning as well but not a reboot or reimagining. Just a new direction for Marvel’s cast of characters. The history stands but the future is one of a more overall cohesive Marvel universe with their films, comics, games and more. This whole new direction is occuring under the Marvel Now banner and anything with that logo will fall into that new direction. Continue reading
